Patriots Score Early and Often in Opener
The Concord-Carlisle girls lacrosse team began the season looking for somebody who could replace the scoring that recent graduates Becca Olsen and Allie Barrett provided the Patriots last year.
In the team’s season opener on Tuesday, 11 players found the back of the net, giving C-C a 15-2 victory over Bedford at Sabourin Field. “We’re a very athletic team,” said C-C coach Paul Morrison, whose team reached the MIAA Division 1 East finals last year before falling to Franklin in overtime. “I was happy with the way we moved the ball and went aggressively to the net.”
The Patriots led, 12-0 at halftime. C-C finished the game with three straight goals from Sophie Shipe, Catherine Gouchoe and Grace Andonian. For Shipe and Andonian, it was the second goal for each. Lexi Goodhue and Hannah Dudley also scored twice each. Dudley, a junior, was an All-American last year and has already committed to play for Stanford University.
Audrey Hunt, Madeline Leahy, Jenna Carlton, Cameryn McCormack, Lucie Gildehaus, Cassidy Hale and Gouchoe scored one each. Conley Ernst and Abby Flynn played in goal for C-C. For Flynn, it was her first varsity appearance.
C-C plays Dual County League newcomer Cambridge Rindge & Latin on Thursday.
This season, C-C is playing in the DCL Large after playing in the league’s Small School division for several years.
