In an early-season battle of undefeated Dual County League Large squads, Acton-Boxborough pulled away with a 10-7 victory over Concord-Carlisle on Friday, April 8 at the CCHS turf field 2. “Concord-Carlisle is a great team,” said A-B coach Scott Biron, whose team is now 3-0. “They had a lot of seniors. We had to play really tough to beat them.” The Colonials held a three-goal lead with 7:25 left in the first half before C-C’s Hannah Dudley, a two-time All-America selection, scored twice, cutting the lead to 7-6 at halftime. Brianna Stout tied the game for the Patriots with 18:42 left in the second half, but A-B’s Julia Neyland helped her team regain the lead with 13:15 remaining. Caroline Loverud and Julia Rowland each added a goal with 7:28 and 3:20 left for the final two-goal margin. “This is an extremely tough league and you’re going to be challenged week after week,” said C-C coach Paul Morrison. “It’s April. It’s early and we have some work to do.” C-C (2-1) had two chances to tie the game in the final minute of the first half,…

CC Wins D1 East Title!

https://concord.wickedlocal.com/article/20150611/SPORTS/150618521 It didn’t slip away this time. One year after bowing to Franklin in overtime in the MIAA Division 1 East final, the Concord-Carlisle girls lacrosse team withstood a late charge from Lincoln-Sudbury to win the sectional title, 9-8 on Thursday, June 11. “This game started out the same way our game against Franklin did last year—we jumped out to a big lead,” C-C coach Paul Morrison said. “But this lead was bigger and L-S didn’t really get its response until the second half.” Said L-S coach Bowen Holden, “Ever since the beginning of the season, we’ve been battling. They had to battle to get into the tournament, and then once they were in, they made a run I don’t think anyone expected. They did that because of their fight and attitude to never quit.” After C-C (19-1-1) extended its lead to 8-3 with two quick goals at the start of the second frame, sophomore Courtney Quirk and junior Clara Bisson ignited the Warriors’ comeback. Quirk, who netted three of her four goals in the final 25 minutes, cut the team’s deficit to 8-5 when she scored goals with 18:27 and 17:16 remaining. L-S (10-7-3) continued to fight in the…

Patriots Score Early and Often in Opener

The Concord-Carlisle girls lacrosse team began the season looking for somebody who could replace the scoring that recent graduates Becca Olsen and Allie Barrett provided the Patriots last year. In the team’s season opener on Tuesday, 11 players found the back of the net, giving C-C a 15-2 victory over Bedford at Sabourin Field. “We’re a very athletic team,” said C-C coach Paul Morrison, whose team reached the MIAA Division 1 East finals last year before falling to Franklin in overtime. “I was happy with the way we moved the ball and went aggressively to the net.” The Patriots led, 12-0 at halftime. C-C finished the game with three straight goals from Sophie Shipe, Catherine Gouchoe and Grace Andonian. For Shipe and Andonian, it was the second goal for each. Lexi Goodhue and Hannah Dudley also scored twice each. Dudley, a junior, was an All-American last year and has already committed to play for Stanford University. Audrey Hunt, Madeline Leahy, Jenna Carlton, Cameryn McCormack, Lucie Gildehaus, Cassidy Hale and Gouchoe scored one each. Conley Ernst and Abby Flynn played in goal for C-C. For Flynn, it was her first varsity appearance. C-C plays Dual County League newcomer Cambridge Rindge &…

CC 11 Wayland 9

CC took on Wayland for the Dual County Small title last week while also looking to avenge an early season loss to the Warriors. It looked like a replay of the first meeting as Wayland built a 4 goal lead through the first 12 minutes. In past years CC has never been able to catch up to Wayland who possess a potent offense and pressuring defense. This year was different. After a CC timeout, the Patriots came out and dominated the rest of the first half, controlling draws, running both fast breaks and set plays, employing a full field defense, and ultimately running off the next 8 goals to go into half time 8-4. Hannah Dudley, in her best game of the year, was unstoppable at controlling the draw, allowing CC nearly every possession after the time out. CC benefitted from a balanced offense as 7 different players combined for the 8 first half goals. Dudley again won the draw after the half and scored in just 15 seconds to extend the lead to 9-4, but Wayland regrouped and started to climb back into the game scoring 4 goals over the next 9 minutes to draw within 1 at 9-8.…

CC 17 Weston 9

The CC girls lacrosse team reeled off their 7th straight win by defeating a quick Weston team last week as they continue through one of the toughest parts of their schedule. Weston always presents a challenge as they can score quickly and often. A high scoring game is the norm and today was no different as the teams traded goals throughout the first half with neither team able to open more than a 1 goal lead until Becca Olsen scored 7 minutes into the game to put CC up by 2 at 6-4. Weston closed the gap to 1 with 1:21 to play before CC scored the final two to make it 9-6 at halftime. Both teams combining for 5 goals over the last 4 ½ minutes. The final CC goal was a lighting quick 10 second drive with Hannah Dudley winning the draw then finding Ali Barrett wide who fed Jenna Carlton in front for the goal. Weston opened the second half with a quick goal to pull with-in 2 but that was as close as they would get as CC netted the next 7 goals, including an interception of a goalie clear by Emma Mahoney for an unassisted…

CC Girls Top Wellesley 9-7

The Concord Carlisle Varsity Girls Lacrosse team opened the season on the road with a hard earned win over a perennially strong Wellesley team. After losing close contests to tough Wellesley squads in their opening game each of the last two seasons, CC played a complete game last Thursday, receiving contributions from all areas of the field to secure the 9-7 win. In the first half Wellesley put sustained pressure on CC to start the game, building a 3-1 lead midway through the first half. CC’s defense, led by sophomores Johanna O’Neil and Madeline Leahy, proved resilient and several great saves were recorded by second year varsity goal tender Conley Ernst to keep CC in the game. CC regained its footing as the play continued with strong scoring chances by both teams. The difference was CC’s ability to finish their chances on offense and Ernst’s ability to deny Wellesley’s repeated shots. CC went on a 4-0 run, with goals by Hannah Dudley, Ali Barrett, Emma Mahoney, and Becca Olsen to make it 5-3 at the half. “I was proud of the way the team stayed composed in the early part of the game” said Coach Paul Morrison. “The defense and…
