CC 10, Algonquin 7

The Concord-Carlisle girl’s lacrosse team continued their working vacation by hosting Algonquin Friday morning at Memorial Field, notching a 10-7 win. Algonquin aggressively attacked right away, but their number five, Juliet Chapin, who proved to be their major offensive threat, fired a dangerous propel shot that turned the ball over to CC, and sophomore Payton Vaughn took the ball immediately the other way all the way to goal, only to have the goalie catch the tipped shot. Cassidy Hale recovered the ball with a check and fed Hannah Dudley for CC’s first goal. CC kept the momentum with an immediate draw control by CC’s Madeline Leahy, as she fed it up for another Hale to Dudley goal. Between false starts by Algonquin and a well-oiled Johanna O’Neil to Dudley draw machine, CC seemed to control most of the draws for the remainder of the game. Algonquin scored their first goal at the twenty-one minute mark, and then a second on a free position shot with a low bouncer to tie it 2-2. The pressure of CC’s defense led to an intercepted low pass by Leahy who took it all the way to goal to make it 3-2. Another O’Neil to…

Concord 9 – Marblehead 6

The Concord-Carlisle girl’s lacrosse team began April vacation with a 9-6 win over the Marblehead Magicians. Although Marblehead pinged a shot off the post to open the game, it remained scoreless for seven minutes as CC kept their patience and Hannah Dudley scored after receiving a great feed from Johanna O’Neil. CC brought a renewed sense of movement on offense, constantly cutting in front of the Marblehead net, and grit and tenacity on defense, forcing Marblehead to work extra hard through midfield pressure just to get the ball upfield. Much of the game was back and forth, and the action low to the ground, aggressively scooping ground balls and pressuring along the sidelines, causing turnovers that soon led to goals. Sophie Shipe pressured a sideline play that led to CC’s second goal by Dudley. The back-and-forth play continued until the fourteen-minute mark, when the Magicians had the ball at the CC end, but could not conjure a way through the Patriots’ defense. After some near forced turnovers, Brianna Stout came up with the ball, fed it to Dudley, who sent it to Payton Vaughn to take up the field, where Kylee Bowen circled the net and gave it to O’Neil…
