Thank You!

Friday night's social was fun and a terrific success. Thank you to all who were able to attend, and especially to those who were able to make a tax-deductible donation to Friends of CC Girls Lacrosse. We hope that all of you will contribute financially and/or by volunteering your help for various activities (watch for sign-ups from captains' parents and FoCCGL). Friends of CC Girls Lacrosse needs your support in order to provide our girls with the tools that will enhance their lacrosse experience at CCHS, no matter what level they play. No donation is too small and your participation as a volunteer is greatly appreciated AND fun. So…in case you missed the party or forgot your checkbook, below is the information you'll need to make a donation*.

Coach Morrison on the upcoming Spring season

Hello CCHS Lacrosse Players,

Welcome to the 2014 girls lacrosse season. The signup / information meeting marked the conclusion of the lacrosse offseason and the start of our preseason. I know many of you competed on a CCHS teams this fall and I congratulate you on a hugely successful fall sports campaign.

Our lacrosse year is broken into four parts:
Off Season: Summer months directly at the conclusion of Post Season. Players are encouraged to attend lax camps, and or play on club teams.
Preseason: Players meet with Coaching Staff, and are supplied instructions on how to get ready for the season. Full information on this is supplied below.
In Season: Tryouts, team formation, practices, scrimmages, and 18 game regular season (see attached game schedule). The freshman schedule will be released at later date.
Post Season: MIAA Tournament (Varsity Only).

Many of you are also beginning your winter sport, and I wish you all the best of luck with that and your second academic term. Recapping our November 25, 2013 preseason meeting. We had fifty-eight student athletes sign up to play girls lacrosse this spring. If you know of any of your classmates that would like to play lacrosse this spring please contact me ASAP at riverhawks86@hotmail.com.

By signing up to play lacrosse at CCHS you have committed to being part of something special!

2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013 MIAA Tournament Participants
2009, 2011 MIAA North Section Semifinalist

PROGRAM PHILOSOPHY: Our athletes need to know that high school lacrosse is a sport that demands athletic ability and a strong desire to compete at the highest level. All CCHS lacrosse players will receive an equal chance to earn a spot within the program.  Student athletes and coaches recognize that successful Patriot lacrosse players display raw athletic ability and a constant effort to improve their lacrosse abilities. As coaches we will work to improve all players at all levels. A continued commitment to excellence by coaches and players alike will motivate us to improve daily, and make our program strong enough to compete with the best teams in the state every year.

In the past three years this philosophy has been the foundation of our program producing one High School All American, thirteen High School Academic All Americans, three DCL Small Championships, and three MIAA Tournament appearances.

VARSITY TEAM GOALS:
-To immediately foster a family atmosphere, where each member has the other’s back.
- To always respect our competition and officials. Remember without them there is no game to play.
- To be the best conditioned team on the field in every game. We will not be outworked or outrun!
- To bring game focus, attitude and speed from the outset to duration of every practice.
- To win the DCL Small championship outright.
- To have the best overall record of all DCL Teams, Large or Small.
- To make the MIAA playoffs.
- To play in the MIAA D1 East Sectional Final and beyond.
All of these goals are achievable if you come to practice and games every day with a “team first” attitude.

TRY-OUTS:
Tryouts will start on Monday March 17, 2014. Every Student athlete will receive at least a three-day tryout period.  While we would like to keep all players, roster sizes are limited. Varsity candidates must be complete players. Characteristics of the complete player include being athletic, tough, ambidextrous, coachable, eager to learn, fearless, conditioned, humble, vocal, confident, responsive to criticism, and having the ability to play both offense and defense.

There will be two timed distance runs during varsity tryouts. A one mile run with a target time of under 8.5 minutes, a two mile run with a target time of under 17 minutes. In addition there will be multiple 100-yard sprints. Players selected to the varsity roster will be expected to run distances over three miles at the beginning of the season.

Projected final cut date is March 19, 2014. If an extenuating circumstance arises and a player is not able to tryout during the allotted time, a coach reserves the right to extend a tryout to the player.

EXPECTATIONS:
CCHS lacrosse players must show the utmost effort to improve and to make strides to be good teammates and good citizens of the CCHS community. We expect you to attend every practice, game, and team meeting. Always be on time. We expect you to improve as in individual every day, while at the same time working hard to make your teammates better. You are students first, so you must remain in good academic standing at CCHS. Your coaches expect you will graduate as the best lacrosse player, and best person you can be.

COMMITMENT LEVEL:
Every Patriot Lacrosse player must attend every game, practice, team meeting, film session, and strength & conditioning session as scheduled (unless listed as optional). Every player must be in school on time everyday. A player must never miss school, arrive tardy to school, miss practice or arrive to practice late unless a member of the coaching staff excuses them to do so ahead of time. Varsity players must know that this is a six-day a week commitment. As a member of the CCHS Girls Lacrosse Program regardless of what level, you are accepting the responsibility to give your time, effort, and commitment to your respective team as we collectively pursue the goal of becoming a perennial state championship contending program.

APRIL VACATION:
Students who choose to participate on the Varsity and JV CCHS lacrosse teams will be expected to attend all games and practices over vacation. Missed games or practices (unless excused by a coach) will result in an equivalent game suspension upon return. The Freshman Team does not have lacrosse scheduled during break.

During April break we will build in off days for students to make college visits. The tentative Varsity schedule is as follows: 4/17 practice 5:30 AM, 4/18 off, 4/19 off, 4/20 off, 4/21 practice 4:00 PM, 4/22 home game Reading (V 10:00 AM/JV 11:30 AM), 4/23 practice 4:00 PM, 4/24 home game Acton-Boxborough (V 10:00 AM/JV 11:30 AM), 4/25 off, 4/26 off, 4/27 practice 5PM.

BONAFIDE TEAM RULE AND MIAA CHEMICAL HEALTH:
All interscholastic athletic participants in Massachusetts must abide by these rules. You will sign a contract agreeing to do so in the spring. If you violate these rules the penalties are harsh. This contract is your word. Do not sign the contract and do not play lacrosse if you have no intention in abiding by these rules!

TRANSFERS:
Students who have transferred into CCHS during this school year should make sure they have filled out a clearance form with AD Barry Haley or you will not be eligible to play.

PHYSICALS:
You must have a current physical on file with the school nurse by the first day of tryouts in order to participate.  A current physical is one that is dated within thirteen months of your last physical. This timetable went into effect last year.

BE PREPARED:

During this preseason you have three and a half months to get in lacrosse playing shape in order to put your best foot forward at tryouts. Use this time to condition and improve your stick skills. Seek out lacrosse clinics and conditioning opportunities throughout the winter, sign up for them ASAP as they fill up fast.

FOCCGL will be sponsoring an optional preseason conditioning session for all CCHS spring athletes starting on Monday February 24, 2014 in the lower gym. The training sessions run from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, and are followed by an hour of Captains Stick Practice. The dates for the training are 2/24/14, 2/26/14, 2/28/14, 3/3/14, 3/5/14, 3/7/14, 3/10/14, 3/12/14, 3/14/14. This training is optional but all lacrosse candidates are strongly encouraged to attend.

Work on conditioning and stick skills at home or with friends. A copy of a wall ball routine is attached to this document. Get used to this wall ball routine, you will be doing it a lot! Remember if you work at lacrosse starting now you will put yourself in the best opportunity to succeed in March and throughout the season.
