CC took on an improved Newton South squad at home and was able to build a 4 goal lead in a relatively close first half before dominating in the second half.

CC built a 3-0 lead over the first 9 minutes of play on two goals by Allie Barrett and one by Hannah Dudley. The teams then traded
goals, led by Barrett’s three and Emma Brandhorst’s two as CC led 7-3 at the half. CC’s experience then took control outscoring Newton South 9-1 in the second half. The Patriot’s offense saw seven different players score and was paced by Emma Mahoney and Lexi Goodhue with 2 goals each. CC’s defense continued to gain strength shutting down Newton South in the second half as the team recorded 9 ground ball pick-ups and 3 caused turnovers. For the day CC had an impressive 15 draw controls and 20 ground ball pick-ups.

Coach Morrison assessed his team’s victory. “We have been stressing to the team that they have to constantly contest for the ball when we don’t have possession, and I thought we did a good job of making it hard for NS to hold onto the ball. It was also nice to see Cassidy Hale out there scoring after missing the first few weeks of the season to injury. It was good to see so many players get quality minutes in the game.”
