The Natick Girls lacrosse team was undefeated until they met the Concord Carlisle Girls lacrosse team on Monday afternoon. Even with the loss of several key players to illness, CC was able to beat Natick on their home field in a close and exciting game that went down to the final play.

CC got on the board first with Hanah Dudley scoring on the first possession of the game. Natick then went on a 3 goal run for their largest lead of the day, 3-1, before Dudley scored again to get CC back to with-in 1 mid way through the first half. Natick responded on their next possession to make it 4-2, but CC closed out the half with goals by seniors Allie Barrett and Emma Mahoney, and sophomore
Cassidy Hale to restore CC’s one goal lead. The first half was marked by strong CC defense causing several Natick turnovers.

Johanna O’Neil had several key ground ball pick-ups while both teams had to deal with unusually strong winds.

The second half began with Natick scoring the first two goals to move back in front 6-5 as CC continued their strong pressing defense only to return the possession to Natick after some
missed passes on offense. CC was able to tighten up their passing and knotted the score at 6 on Becca Olsen’s first of four goals on the day. CC continued their run with two more goals to move out to their biggest lead of the day, 8-6 mid-way through
the second half. Natick came back with two of their own to tie it again at 8-8 and it was clear neither team would pull away.

They final 5 minutes were filled with pressure as each possession became a key moment. Natick moved out front first with a goal to
make it 9-8 before Becca Olsen scored on a key CC possession to tie the game at 9 all. With less than two minutes left Dudley made a
nice pass to Olsen under pressure and Olsen finished with her fourth goal on the day to put CC back up 10-9 with less than a minute to play. Natick secured the draw and was poised to tie the game. With twenty seconds left Natick scored what looked like the tying goal but Natick was called for off sides and the goal was waved off. CC was awarded the ball deep in their own end and was able to transition the ball up field under pressure to the Natick end where they ran out the clock to secure the 10-9 win. In addition to Olsen’s four second half goals, Conley Ernst was once again a key contributor in goal with several big saves and a key ground ball pick up late in the game behind her own goal.

Coach Paul Morrison said "From 10:00 AM this morning we had all kinds of things not go our way including having two starters and my first reserve off the bench all being home in bed sick.
Every year you have a game where your senior leaders have to put the team on their back and today that is what saved us. Allie Barrett helped us all over the field (1 goal, 2 assist, 5 draw controls, 6 ground balls, 1 caused turnover). Emma Mahoney had a goal and four ground balls. Emma Brandhorst battled hard (1 assist, 1 draw control, 1 ground ball and 2 caused turnovers). Tessa Dibble settled the defense with 2 key ground ball pick-ups. Finally I can't begin to explain how incredibly clutch Becca Olsen was with 4 goals and an assist, including the tying and game winning goals in the last minute and a half of the game."
