What started out looking like a track meet ended up in a CC rout of Weston last Thursday as the Patriots took on the Wildcats at their home field.

Weston has given the Patriots all they could handle in recent years and this game looked to be no different in the first half. Things got off to rapid start as both teams combined for 6 goals in the first five minutes. Emma Mahoney, Hannah Dudley, and Allie Barrett scored early for CC but Weston traded goals on each possession to keep it tight. It looked like another high scoring, close affair, but things settled down in the remaining 20 minutes of the first half with CC advancing to a 5-3 lead on goals by Jenna Carlton and Lexi Goodhue before Weston pulled the game back to a 5-5 draw at the half. Goalie Conley Ernst and the CC defense provided strong support throughout the first half.

"The first half of the game showed us how competitive the Dual County League is. Weston is a team that is very young, but they are talented and battled toe to toe with our veteran team” said Coach Paul Morrison.

What figured to be a close game until the end quickly turned into one sided match with Hannah Dudley taking over the draw controls and Becca Olsen putting on a scoring exhibition as CC outscored Weston 11-3 in the second half. CC dominated the possessions in the second half with a total of 9 draw controls, 6 by Dudley and 3 more by Johannah O’Neil, giving CC more than twice as many possessions as Weston in the final 25 minutes. CC got in a rhythm as the midfielders and attack players found Becca Olsen repeatedly for scores. Olsen matched her single game high scoring total from last year with 6 goals, with several assisted by Lexi Goodhue. Barrett, Dudley, Goodhue, and Amelia Johnson added goals in the second half to cap a day that saw contributions from the entire team.

Coach Morrison added “In the second half of the game we dominated possession of the ball thanks to sophomore Hannah Dudley's dominance on the draw control. Becca Olsen was unstoppable on attack, and our defensive corp (Tessa Dibble, Brianna Stout, Johannah O'Neil, and Madeline Leahy) shut the door on Weston's attack. It was certainly a great way to bounce back after the disappointment against Westford on Tuesday."
