The CC Girls lacrosse team (14-1) took to the field Friday against a strong Masconomet team (10-4). The Chieftains came ready to play with plenty of firepower, however CC goalie Captain Conley Ernst proved to be the difference as she put on a first half goal tending clinic stopping 14 of 18 Chieftain shots.

CC started the scoring on a Grace Andonian crease roll soon followed by Captain Lexi Goodhue's first of three goals with an assist from Johanna O'Neil. The Chieftain's answered back firing off 3 consecutive goals to take a 3-2 lead. After a CC time out, Goodhue scored to tie the game as Andonian provided a beautiful feed from behind the net. Captain Madeline Leahy ended the first half scoring on a powerful drive to goal
allowing CC to end the half tied 4-4.

The Patriots and Chieftains battled back and forth for much of the second half trading goal for goal. Masco would score first only to have CC tie the game on a Hannah Dudley free position goal. Masco regained the lead minutes later at 6-5 but the Patriots responded when Captain Jenna Carlton buried a free position shot notching the score at 6 apiece. CC kept the momentum winning, the ensuing draw control and transitioning the ball quickly down field where Cassidy Hale out maneuvered her defender and scored what would be the game winning goal.

Masco continued to pressure the ball with under 4 minutes left to play, but Hannah Dudley's strong drive to goal resulted in a Chieftain's foul and a Free position shot which Dudley ripped to the back of the net. With 2 minutes left to play Captain's Goodhue and Carlton combined for the final goal of the game when Goodhue took a feed from Carlton and fired a shot from the top of the 8 meter line beating the Masco goaltender.

The second half was highlighted by a strong CC defense that derailed Masconomet's aggressive offense, allowing them just 5 shots on goal. Strong play came from the entire defensive squad which included high re-defending pressure that kept the Chieftains pinned in their defensive zone causing multiple Masco turnovers. Stand outs on defense included
Brianna Stout, Sophie Shipe, Audrey Hunt, Emily Mushlitz, Johanna O'Neil, Allie Haney, Hannah Dudley and Annie Wilson.

Coach Morrison “Masco played us really tough. Conley was amazing today, and she was aided by our defenders who contested every Masco shot. Lexi continues to score timely goals. It was nice to see us win a playoff type of game."

CC has two games this week. Monday, Senior Day, at home against Marblehead and Thursday at Cambridge.
