The CC girls varsity lacrosse team played their second home game of the season Friday against Wayland, a team that always comes ready to play and for years, one of Patriots most competitive rivals. CC in their home white uniforms came out strong against Wayland adorned in black.  The Patriots scored first at the one minute mark and never looked back. During the next six minutes CC would register an additional six goals while Wayland collected one.

Hanna Dudley was dominant on the circle with 4 draw controls and 5 goals, while Captain Jenna Carlton tallied 4 goals with her quick shot while cutting through traffic. Captain Lexi Goodhue tallied 3 more goals for the Patriots with fancy foot work and nice finishes. Other Patriots providing strong offensive games included Johanna O’Neil, (3 assists, 3 draw controls), Cassidy Hale, (2 goals) Captain Madeline Leahy (1 goal) Lucie Gildehaus (1 goal) and Caroline Hughes (1 goal).

With three of Wayland’s starting offense expecting to play at the college level next season, the Warrior’s showed  strong, fast  firepower from their attack positions later in the period.  By the end of the first half, Wayland had closed the scoring gap 12-7.

The second half was a solid defensive effort by the Patriots as CC held Wayland to just four  goals while CC tallied five more on offense. Goal tender and Captain Conley Ernst was solid in net which included intercepting four Wayland passes in crucial points of the game. Meanwhile Conley, the defense and CC’s midfield were a perfect six for six in clear attempts.  Emily Mushlitz, Margot Painter and Audrey Hunt were all solid on defense. Brianna Stout once again forced several caused turnovers and transitioned the ball well creating offensive opportunities.

Coach Morrison “Wayland is always a strong test for our team and we responded. My Captains (Carlton, Goodhue, Ernst and Leahy) lead with poise on and off the field. Hannah Dudley shined in all 3 phases of the game and Brianne Stout continued to be the force of a very strong defense”

The Patriots play next on Thursday, April 16th against Westford Academy a strong division rival followed by Franklin on Friday, April 17th, a team that ended their 2014 playoff run during the Divisional finals.
