Patriots Tame Wildcats

The CC Girls lacrosse team (9-0) continued their winning ways Monday with a solid 12-4 victory over an athletic and determined Weston squad (5-3).

It was a complete team effort by the Patriot’s as CC’s fortress-like defense, once again, refused their opponents to gain traction on offense. Weston shooters were continually frustrated by CC’s well timed double team slides and blocks, denying their attackers from running lanes and open cuts while causing six Weston turnovers. Senior Margot Painter led the defense with 3 forced turnovers. Through their first nine games this season the Patriot defense has given up, on average, just 6 goals a game, a statistic that speaks to the skill and tenacity of this team’s defensive unit.

Senior defenders Painter and Emily Muschlitz along with Juniors Sophie Shipe, Audrey Hunt, Brianna Stout and Sophomore Annie Wilson have all been instrumental in Patriot wins this season. Combined with Senior Captain and goalie Conley Ernst, collectively this could be the team’s best defense ever.

The sturdy CC defense allowed only two Weston goals throughout the first half while the Patriot offense kicked into gear rattling off 5 goals on tallies coming from Hannah Dudley, Grace Andonian, Captains Lexi Goodhue & Jenna Carlton and freshmen attacker Caroline Hughes.

The Patriots stepped up their attack in the second half putting seven more pills in the back of the net as Dudley (5 draws), Johanna O’Neil (3 draws) and Madeline Leahy (2 draws) dominated in the draw circle. Three Patriot players Goodhue, Dudley & Andonian all collected 3 goals each while Carlton punched in 2 goals and added 2 assists.

Patriot Goalie Ernst finished the game stopping 8 of 12 Weston shots while adding 1 interception and along with her defense were a perfect 6 for 6 in clear attempts.

Coach Morrison "That was a typical hard fought DCL game. Weston is the best team in the DCL small league, and they played us hard the entire game. In the end our defense made it hard for them to score, and we were able to capitalize on our scoring chances."

As of this writing the Patriots are ranked 4th in the state in Division 1 by The Boston Globe, The Boston Herald and LaxPower.com.

Notes: The girls varsity lacrosse team is not the only team finding success this season as the girls Junior Varsity team is also undefeated with 8 wins and 0 losses against strong opponents such as AB, LS, Westford, Wayland, Algonquin & Franklin.
