The GG Girls Lacrosse team won 10 of 13 second half draw controls and utilized 8 different goal scorers to defeat the Franklin Panthers 13-10 this past Friday in a much anticipated re-match at Doug White Field.

Last year Franklin defeated the Patriots 13-12 in overtime in the Division 1 North Sectional Finals ending one of CC’s most successful lacrosse seasons.

Hannah Dudley, Lexi Goodhue, Jenna Carlton, Cassidy Hale and Grace Andonian all had double tallies while Dudley added 3 assists.

The Panthers played aggressive in the circle winning several early draw controls to take a two  goal lead. CC  countered with two goals of their own by Hannah Dudley and Captain Lexi Goodhue bringing the game even. The game continued as both teams challenged their opponent’s defense matching goal for goal as Goodhue and CC attacker Grace Andonian added tallies.  Although Franklin controlled clock time with ball  possession, the Patriot defense remained firm and forces several key Panther turnovers to keep the game tight

including three key interceptions by  CC Goalie Conley Ernst on feed attempts to crossing cutter. Emily Muschlitz, Brianna Stout, Audrey Hunt and Annie Wilson all had solid games on defense for the Patriots as they shut down Franklin running lanes and transitioned the ball well down the field during high pressure situations. With just under five minutes remaining in the half, Hannah Dudley connected twice with Captain Jenna Carlton on crossing cuts that Carlton ripped to the back of the net helping CC take an important 6-5 half time lead.

The Patriots added to their lead in the second half as Dudley & Johanna O’Neil took control of the draw circle winning 9 of 10 draws while attacker Cassidy Hale notched a pair of CC goals.  Patriot Grace Andonian followed up with her second tally of the day giving the Patriots a 9-6 lead. Franklin battled back with a pair of goals to tighten the game but O’Neil, Dudley and junior Captain Madeline Leahy added a goal each to keep pace with their rival. Patriot defender Brianna Stout helped secure the win with a

midfield sprint to goal driving the ball home for the final CC tally and closing out an impressive 13-10 win.

Coach Morrison  "That was a terrific game between two great teams. Hannah (Dudley), Madeline (Leahy), and JoJo (O'Neil) were tremendous on the draw control, combining for fourteen key draw possessions in a very close game. With seven players  tallying a total of thirteen goals we continue to be balanced on attack. It was exciting to see Sophie Shipe be so unselfish in playing the role as utility player as she played every field position in a tense game. Brianna Stout continues to
stake a claim to being one of the best defenders in the league. Our captains (Carlton, Ernst, Goodhue, and Leahy) had their best game as a group of leaders on and off the field. It was a great team win to take us into the April school vacation week.

The 6-0 Patriots are now ranked 4th in Division 1.
