CC 11 Wayland 9

CC took on Wayland for the Dual County Small title last week while also looking to avenge an early season loss to the Warriors. It looked like a replay of the first meeting as Wayland built a 4 goal lead through the first 12 minutes. In past years CC has never been able to catch up to Wayland who possess a potent offense and pressuring defense. This year was different. After a CC timeout, the Patriots came out and dominated the rest of the first half, controlling draws, running both fast breaks and set plays, employing a full field defense, and ultimately running off the next 8 goals to go into half time 8-4. Hannah Dudley, in her best game of the year, was unstoppable at controlling the draw, allowing CC nearly every possession after the time out. CC benefitted from a balanced offense as 7 different players combined for the 8 first half goals. Dudley again won the draw after the half and scored in just 15 seconds to extend the lead to 9-4, but Wayland regrouped and started to climb back into the game scoring 4 goals over the next 9 minutes to draw within 1 at 9-8.…

CC 17 Weston 9

The CC girls lacrosse team reeled off their 7th straight win by defeating a quick Weston team last week as they continue through one of the toughest parts of their schedule. Weston always presents a challenge as they can score quickly and often. A high scoring game is the norm and today was no different as the teams traded goals throughout the first half with neither team able to open more than a 1 goal lead until Becca Olsen scored 7 minutes into the game to put CC up by 2 at 6-4. Weston closed the gap to 1 with 1:21 to play before CC scored the final two to make it 9-6 at halftime. Both teams combining for 5 goals over the last 4 ½ minutes. The final CC goal was a lighting quick 10 second drive with Hannah Dudley winning the draw then finding Ali Barrett wide who fed Jenna Carlton in front for the goal. Weston opened the second half with a quick goal to pull with-in 2 but that was as close as they would get as CC netted the next 7 goals, including an interception of a goalie clear by Emma Mahoney for an unassisted…

CC Girls Top Wellesley 9-7

The Concord Carlisle Varsity Girls Lacrosse team opened the season on the road with a hard earned win over a perennially strong Wellesley team. After losing close contests to tough Wellesley squads in their opening game each of the last two seasons, CC played a complete game last Thursday, receiving contributions from all areas of the field to secure the 9-7 win. In the first half Wellesley put sustained pressure on CC to start the game, building a 3-1 lead midway through the first half. CC’s defense, led by sophomores Johanna O’Neil and Madeline Leahy, proved resilient and several great saves were recorded by second year varsity goal tender Conley Ernst to keep CC in the game. CC regained its footing as the play continued with strong scoring chances by both teams. The difference was CC’s ability to finish their chances on offense and Ernst’s ability to deny Wellesley’s repeated shots. CC went on a 4-0 run, with goals by Hannah Dudley, Ali Barrett, Emma Mahoney, and Becca Olsen to make it 5-3 at the half. “I was proud of the way the team stayed composed in the early part of the game” said Coach Paul Morrison. “The defense and…
