CC Wins 13-8 against Wayland
The Concord-Carlisle girls lacrosse team visited Wayland Tuesday afternoon and left with another win, 13-8. Cassidy Hale struck quickly with an assist from Johanna O’Neill. Goals were added by Kylee Bowen, Madeline Leahy and Hannah Dudley, with two. Wayland came to play, however, keeping the scoring low with the first half ending with C-C up 5-3. Abby Flynn was steady in the net with 3 saves on 6 shots.
Wayland came back early in the second half to tie it 5-5, despite aggressive double- and triple-teaming by C-C on their top scorers. Wayland then pulled ahead, leading 9-7.
Hannah Dudley stepped up with authority in the second half, controlling seven draws, taking it to goal twice while scoring the first five goals of the second half, with assists from O’Neill, Brianna Stout and Sophie Shipe.
With junior Amelia Slade in net for the second half, making two exciting saves in a row to hold a 9-8 lead, the C-C defense permanently shut down the Wayland offense for the final ten minutes.
Payton Vaughn had an outstanding game on defense, sticking like glue to the Wayland attackers and coming up with four ground balls, three caused turnovers and contributing two draw controls.
The second half was marked by an increasingly physical game, with both teams playing intense, tough defense, and two yellow cards going to Wayland’s high scorer, causing her exit from the game with six minutes left after a foul on Molly Dibble. Dibble immediately capitalized on that foul by scoring off an assist from Leahy. Grace Andonian kept the momentum for a strong C-C finish with a quick shot off an assist by sophomore Dibble, and notched the final goal of the game as C-C controlled the ball in the Wayland end for the last minutes of the game.
